THE SURPRISING AMAZING VIETNAMESE'S WOMEN MUSEUM (North Vietnam): Despite being a patriarchal society, Viet Nam still reserves a special, if not sacred, place to honour Vietnamese women...

Despite being a patriarchal society, Viet Nam still reserves a special, if not sacred, place to honour Vietnamese women. Not only is October 20th is made Vietnam’s Women day but there also exists a museum dedicated to women.

The museum displays rather recent history of women, such as women and ethnicity; women and the national struggle; Vietnam women association and the feminism; women and traditional costumes; and women’s cultural traits expressed through handicrafts.
Inside, over 25,000 objects spread across 1500 square meters and five stories, shedding more light on the history and culture of Vietnam. Unlike most museums that I had visited before, this one was more about presentation than actual artifacts. Larger than life photos dominated most of the rooms, complete with English captions for foreign visitors.
There are three permanent exhibits:
  • Women and Family,
  • Women and Society,
  • and Women’s Fashion.
Each exhibit uses a different colour and theme.
Women and Family features their role in the family in various indigenous subcultures of Vietnam.
Women and Society puts the spotlight on the many famous women and the parts they played in the country’s history and contemporary society.
The top floor houses Women’s Fashion, a vibrant display of both traditional and modern clothing, textile, and jewelry. Special exhibits are also set up inside the museum.
There are also frequent exhibitions on contemporary women, such as women working as street vendors or women’s place in the family. The Vietnam Women’s Museum is definitely worth a few hour visit, especially for those keen on learning about culture and gender.

The permanent galleries feature three thematic displays:
  • Women in Family
  • Women in History
  • Women’s Fashion
The Museum’s collection features historical and contemporary objects which illustrate and reflect the lives and roles of Vietnamese women in society.
The museum is located at 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi (please see the location here next).

MU CANG CHAI (North Vietnam): Mu Cang Chai in Vietnam’s northern highlands is a spectacular base from which to explore the country’s undiscovered rice terraces...

Mu Cang Chai is a rural district of Yen Bai Province in the Northeast region of Vietnam. With a population of nearly 45,500 for a district covering an area of 1,199 km ². Mu cang Chai is on the same path to the way to Sapa. Unlike Sapa or Ha Giang, Mu Cang Chai doesn't have many things to do besides its main draw: golden terraced rice fields. Travelers do not really visit Mu Cang Chai out of its best time from September to October. Yet when the harvest season comes, everyone tries to get to Mu Cang Chai, just to have a look at the man-made wonder that the people here have diligently created over the years. In this time of every year the city turns into a paradise of rice fields around.    What to eat in Mu Cang Chai? 1. Tu Le sticky rice with chicken Tu Le glutinous sticky rice is a famous specialty of Mu Cang Chai Vietnam. Tu Le rice is planted at Muong Lo field, famous for its special aroma. When cooked, the rice taste sweet and heavenly fragrance. Tu Le stick

THE SURREAL SAND DUNES OF MUI NE (South Vietnam): It's the outstanding place to go for a taste of desert and wonderful landscape photography!

Mui Ne is a resort town that spans 15 kilometres along Vietnam’s southern coast. There are two sand dunes you can easily access from Mui Ne, namely the Red Sand Dunes and the White Sand Dunes.  The White Sand Dunes is exactly how I have always imagined a desert to be – a vast expanse of barren land. Undoubtedly more pristine and breathtaking than the Red Sand Dunes, the White Sand Dunes is also less accessible. It is an hour drive from the centre of Mui Ne, and I must say that it is most definitely worth the commute.   The Red Sand Dunes is just 20 minutes from the town centre, and the sand is really more orangey-brown than red. The gentle slopes make it easy to walk on foot (at least in comparison to the White Sand Dunes), and it is a spectacular place to be during sunset. The Fairy Stream is one of Mui Ne’s main attractions, alongside the Red and White Sand Dunes. I didn’t expect to see hills of sand along the Fairy Stream at all.  The landscape is absolutely surre
